ECM produces airfoils, including the leading and trailing edges and the platform, in a single operation. The high surface quality, precision, and repeatability speak for themselves. The conventional manual refinishing processes have been made redundant. These advantages have made it possible to also produce compressor blades for stationary gas turbines by the ECM method.
Despite the production of individual blades this production technology is also used successfully for integral rotors (Blisk).
The most recent developments aim at the manufacture of complete blades (pre- and final processing) of BLISK from nickel based alloys by means of ECM.
