Pharma Extrusion
Extrusion technology is an accepted method for continuous processing of pharmaceutical materials. Wet extrusion as well as melt extrusion offer various advantages due to flexible equipment and processes.
The main task of the extruder is continuous mixing, homogenizing and sometimes drying of the material. Extrusion terminology refers typically to a throughput in kg/hr, increasing with machine size.
Typical Applications:
- Incorporation of active ingredients into a carrier material (e.g. cellulose)
- Conveying and compacting of a tablet premix
- Wetting of a powder matrix with fluid
- Compounding of anti-bacterial TPU premixes
- Devolatilization of a cellulose matrix
- Transdermal lamination
